Walker Girls Basketball: From Biddy to Big Time
WALKER, La - Walker's Girls Basketball team has already made history.
Sitting at 22-5, the Lady Wildcats earned the number two seed in the 5A playoffs, the highest in school history.
Walker can point to several things for their success. Head Coach Korey Arnold in his three years in Livingston Parish, has brought the Lady wildcats from an 11 seed to a 2 seed. Point guard Kacie Fountain, a transfer from Northshore, has given the team exactly what they need at the floor general position, leading the team in assists.
But the success all starts with the bond of guard Baylie Stears and forward Jamie Gibson. The two have a chemistry on the court that can usually only equate to being sisters. That's because this dynamic duo has been playing together since 4 years old, in the Walker biddy league.
Now this star pairing and their teammates have a chance to do something that hasn't been done in quite some time at Walker High School. That's make it to the Top 28 to have a chance to bring home a state title.
Walker will start their path to Marsh Madness in Lake Charles, when the Lady Wildcats face Number 31 Airline at 6:30 Thursday.
