WALKER- The statewide burn ban won't cancel Walker's CityFest celebration scheduled for July 2nd. Mayor Bobby Font says the firework display is approved and will cap off the end of the festival.
"I know that there has been a burn ban and that's obviously a concern of everyone's, but this is a controlled environment and the fire department will be on hand," said Font.
The celebration will also be used to mark the graduation from town to city, after census numbers boosted Walker's population, but Font knows they can't let the larger crowds change the city's outlook.
"We are going to grow we know that, everyone knows that, but the way you keep your small country atmosphere is through community events, where you can put a face to the name and you know your neighbors," said Font.
The celebration starts at 3 p.m. on July 2nd at Sidney Hutchinson Park. For more information click here.
