Walgreens settles over painkiller sales
MIAMI- The Walgreens pharmacy chain settled with the Drug Enforcement Administration over violations of rules governing the distribution of powerful prescription painkillers.
The DEA says Walgreens committed various record-keeping and dispensing violations that allowed drugs such as oxycodone to be improperly sold to abusers and for illegal sales on the black market.
The settlement is for $80 million.
Florida is a major East Coast source of the painkillers that are highly addictive and an ongoing crackdown has included numerous arrests.
