Wal-Mart to offer benefits for domestic partners
BENTONVILLE, ARKANSAS- Wal-Mart will begin offering health insurance benefits to same-sex couples and domestic partners starting next year. The couples, either same-sex or opposite genders, will have to have lived in a committed relationship for at least a year. It comes a few months after the Supreme Court overturned the Defense of Marriage Act that defined matrimony as between a man and a woman. Workers can start enrolling for the benefits from October 12 through November 1. Wal-Mart notified employees of the change with a postcard this week.
