BATON ROUGE - The last day to register to vote in this year's election is Tuesday, Oct. 9.

To qualify, you must be a U.S. citizen and a Louisiana resident. You can register starting at age 17, but cannot vote unless you are 18 on the day of the election.

All those registering at City Hall should bring proper identification such as a driver's license or birth certificate and their Social Security number.

First-time voter Landon Hatfield says he's excited to vote.

"I feel like there was a good need for me to come register to vote, pick the best for our country," said Hatfield.

Residents can register at their local Registrar of Voters office, or online via the Secretary of State's website.

All mailed-in voter registration forms must be post marked by tomorrow.
