MAUREPAS- Relief organizations like the Red Cross and Salvation Army, as well as local volunteers, are helping people deal with Hurricane Isaac cleanup in Livingston Parish.
The Livingston Parish District 9 Fire Station in Maurepas has been operating as a distribution site for the past several days. Lines of cars filled the parking lot for most of the day as people waited to pick up donations.
Volunteer Celeste Winkle of Maurepas says it is all about helping people in the town where she was born and raised. She says many people lost everything.
Maurepas volunteer Danielle Lessard says she was one of the lucky ones. Lessard says she lost a pecan tree, but did not have any other major damage to her property. She says it is tough to see her neighbors dealing with the crisis. Lessard says volunteer work at the fire station is the best way to offer them a helping hand.
