GONZALES - The Ascension Parish Unified Command has issued a voluntary evacuation order for parts of St. Amant, Acy and Sorrento because of anticipated rising waters from the aftermath of Tropical Storm Isaac.

Officials said the voluntary evacuation area is south of La. 934 (Gold Place Road), east of La. 431 and La. 941 (Brittany Tower Road), north of I-10 to the I-10/U.S. Highway 61 crossover, continuing north to La. 934.

Ascension Parish President Tommy Martinez said the voluntary evacuation is a precautionary measure.

A shelter has been open at the Lamar-Dixon Expo Center's Trade Mart building.
