BATON ROUGE - More details about the upcoming 2016 Louisiana Govenor's Inauguration were released by the Edwards transition team Thursday, including the announcement that legendary "Voice of the Tigers" Jim Hawthorne will hold down the master of ceremonies position.

Hawthorne is retiring at the end of the men’s basketball season. He served 35 years as the “Voice of the Tigers” calling games for LSU‘s men’s basketball, baseball and football teams.

The transition team said retired Lt. Col. Murray Starkel, a former classmate with Edwards at West Point, will introduce the governor-elect.

Edwards will be sworn in on his family bible presented by his cousin Frank Edwards III with the Washington Artillery of New Orleans Honor Guard will perform the Posting of the Colors and will line the Capitol Steps during the ceremony.

Nancy Armstrong Holmes, Minister of Music at the Greater King David Baptist Church in Baton Rouge, is scheduled to perform the National Anthem, and Purple Heart recipient Richard O’Brien will lead The Pledge of Allegiance.

Reverend Dr. Rodney Wood of The Mission Foundation will lead the invocation. President of the National Baptist Convention, Reverend Samuel Tolbert will lead the inaugural prayer. Father Mark Beard of St. Helena Catholic Church will give the benediction.

More than 3,000 plants from local nurseries from across Louisiana will be part of the scenery at the ceremony.

Tulane Roots of Music, Centenary College Choir, Victory Belles, Livingston Parish Children’s Choir, Inaugural Gospital Choir, Montoucet Family and the Louisiana National Guard Band will perform during the pre-inaugural service.

The inauguration ceremony is scheduled for Jan. 11 with the festivities getting underway at 11:30 a.m.
