BATON ROUGE-- David Keller and his girlfriend are planning on moving from Arialo Drive off Brightside. The chaotic scene that unfolded Saturday night down the street from them is the final straw, Keller said.
Two men broke into a house on Arialo, then got into a scuffle with one of the people inside, detectives said. That's when a gun went off and shot one of the would-be burglars, according to police.
But both men got away. It was nearly 20 miles away when police found the two men, according to the Baton Rouge Police Department.
The men drove to Baker, where they stopped near a car wash and called 911 for help. That's where investigators arrested Chauncey Carter, 32, of Zachary. They charged him with attempted first degree murder, armed robbery and illegal use of a weapon.
Police said the other would-be burglar was taken to a hospital. He is still in critical condition.
Even through police nabbed two people for the crime, Keller does not feel safe in the neighborhood, even with locked doors.
"Apparently that doesn't stop 'em. If they want something, they're just coming in doors now," Keller told News 2.
Keller said he had nearly $3,000 in guns stolen from his locked truck. That's why this incident has him so angry.
"You break into someone's house, you should be shot," Keller said.
Police have not yet released the name of the second suspect.
