Vigil tonight for late Father Than Vu
BATON ROUGE - A Vietnamese-born priest who was well-loved in the Baton Rouge community passed away Wednesday morning, according to the Diocese of Baton Rouge.
The diocese said Father Than N. Vu died at his residence after a long battle with cancer. He was 56 years old.
Father Vu was the Vicar General of the diocese and pastor of St. Aloysius Church. He emigrated to the United States with his family from Vietnam in 1975 and was ordained in 1984 by Bishop Stanley T. Ott.
A diocese spokesperson said Father Than's family was grateful to his many parishoners and friends who offered love, comfort and prayers during his last days.
A vigil service will be held at Christ the King Church in Baton Rouge Friday at 7:30 p.m. Visitation will be Saturday from 9 to 11 a.m. at St. Aloysius Church, with the funeral Mass at 11 a.m. presided by Bishop Robert Muench. Interment will be at Roselawn Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Diocese of Baton Rouge.
