BATON ROUGE – There is an internal investigation following Baton Rouge Police using force to subdue someone in custody outside a South Baton Rouge convenience store this week.

The WBRZ Investigative Unit confirmed through police there is an investigation underway, though, police said there have been no complaints filed against the officers involved. Internal Affairs is looking into the incident, often a procedural inquiry following any use of force.

The situation this week happened at the AM Food Mart on Highland Road early Monday morning. Video recorded by a bystander shows what appears to be three officers holding down a man. The witness said the man's hands were being held by police, was being held tightly to the ground and was punched by an officer. The video shared with WBRZ is grainy, and it's not entirely clear what is going on – though, the video does show there were tense, stressful moments as officers were attempting to take the individual into custody.

After the original WBRZ.com report on the situation, police revealed information about what happened.  A police spokesperson said the suspect in the video was fidgety as police tried to question him related to a shooting investigation.  Later, police said, the individual began to struggle with officers and told them he "didn't want to go to jail again."  A Baton Rouge Police spokesperson said the man was arrested on charges related to drug possession and resisting arrest.
