Video: School bus fight has driver in trouble
BATON ROUGE - A video obtained by News 2 shows two teen girls fighting while the rest of the students watched, and the bus driver did nothing.
The parents of one of the girls is outraged and said in an email, "I am furious and concerned that our children are not safe in the school system. This has to STOP and NOW."
Susan Nelson, director of communications for the East Baton Rouge Parish School Board, explained the bus driver's inaction is not typical and has been handled accordingly.
"This was an isolated incident," Nicholson said. "This was a bus driver that doesn't routinely deal with this group of children, so she didn't know the children. There may have been a prior issue that the other bus driver might have known about and been able to perhaps head off."
The school system wouldn't elaborate on the punishment handed down to the driver since it is considered a personnel matter, but in an email obtained by News 2 it said the driver was reprimanded for a "lack of action."
Both students were suspended from riding the bus and further punished at school. The sheriff's office is aware of the fight, and charges are pending.
