BATON ROUGE - The mother of 21-year-old Justin Guillory says her son was a quiet person and all he wanted to do was play basketball.

That's what he was doing the night he was murdered June 12, outside the Berean Seventh Day Adventist Gym on Osborne Ave. He was gunned down getting into his car.

"My son was not that type of kid and he did not deserve to die like that," said April Guillory.

Witnesses say a group of men got into an argument during the basketball game and that led to the shooting. Guillory says she thought her son was in a safe place.

"There's hardly anywhere safe to go," she said. "You know, kids can't just go to have a good time it's always somebody there to spoil the good time."

A week after the murder, family and friends joined in song outside the family's home to remember their loved one.

Justin leaves behind a five-month-old son named Jayden.

"I'm going to teach him everything I can," said Guillory of her grandchild. "He'll never forget his father."

There have been no arrests in Justin Guillory's death.
