Victim identified in early morning shooting
BATON ROUGE - Police identified the victim who was found shot dead in his front yard early Sunday morning.
Police identified the victim as 24-year-old Eddie Simon Jr. who was found with a gun wound to his head on 2800 73rd Ave. around 1:45 a.m. Authorities were originally dispatched to the scene for reports of a traffic crash.
Investigators say they believe the victim was standing in his front yard when an unknown suspect walked up, fired several shots at the victim and fled.
Neighbors in the area say this incident is just another sign of their community going downhill and it has been spiraling downward for the past five years.
The victim was pronounced dead after he arrived to the hospital. Police are still investigating the incident.
