Victim identified in deadly morning fire
BATON ROUGE - Investigators released the name of the person killed by a house fire in Baton Rouge overnight.
A Baton Rouge Fire Department spokesperson said Tommy Lee Bates was found dead in the house at 835 Myrtle Street after firefighters were able to get into the burning building.
Firefighters received the call about the fire just before 2:30 a.m. When they arrived, firefighters said flames were coming out of the front and sides of the home.
Firefighters contained the fire nearly 20 minutes later, and once they were able to get inside searchers found Bates' body. Investigators later determined he had died from smoke inhalation.
The spokesperson said an exact cause for the fire had not been determined yet, and the fire was still under investigation.
