BATON ROUGE - State Police have identified the victim in a fatal one-vehicle crash Friday night as a 35-year-old Zachary man.

Trooper Russell Graham said Joseph Nixon died when the pickup he was riding in went off the road near Blackwater Baptist Church and flipped, then hit a tree.

The driver, 36-year-old Todd Thomas of Zachary, was seriously injured and arrested in suspicion of DWI and vehicular homicide. Investigators said both Thomas and Nixon were partially ejected in the crash Friday night, and Nixon was pronounced dead at the scene.

Graham said a sample of Thomas' blood was sent off to be tested, and he will be taken to the East Baton Rouge Parish jail after he is released from the hospital.
