BATON ROUGE - The victim in an early-morning shooting died and the search continues for his killer, after a midday standoff ended with police storming an empty house.
Cpl. L'Jean McKneely said Derrick Williams, 33, died after he was shot in chest multiple times on the 3900 block of Dalton Street this morning.
Police were initially told someone possibly shot at Williams from a house at 3960 Dalton. A SWAT unit was called in after officers couldn't make contact with anyone in the house, but when they made entry after noon they didn't find anyone inside.
"It does not make me fearful because I've been through this eight times, eight times and no arrests," Claudius Price, who lives nearby, said.
Schools in the area were put on lockdown or took extra precautions, and were taken off lockdown later his afternoon.
Police do not have a motive or suspect in the shooting. If you have information contact police.
