BATON ROUGE - Veterans in Baton Rouge say wait times at the New Orleans VA are delaying treatments and they need help.
"You get so frustrated because there's no one to talk to, the patient advocates, not all if them, but the ones here, they're more like VA advocates, they find a reason for why the VA is doing this and they give an excuse. There's always excuses," says US Army Veteran Linda Compau.
VA hospitals have attracted national scrutiny after whistleblowers said there were efforts to cover up the deaths of up to 40 veterans while they were awaiting appointments at the department's giant medical center in Phoenix.
The Southeast Louisiana Veterans Healthcare System says it is unaware of delayed treatments. They're asking veterans to go up the chain of command if they feel a problem is not being addressed.
