Vermilion SO: 1 dead in morning helicopter crash

ABBEVILLE, La. - The Vermilion Parish Sheriff's Office says a helicopter pilot was killed in a crash shortly after taking off from a heliport in the area of Intracoastal City.
A news release said the crash was reported at 8:20 a.m. Friday. The wreckage was found about a quarter of a mile from the takeoff site.
The release said the helicopter had embarked on a test flight with only the pilot aboard.
Details on the location, the helicopter and the identity of the victim were being withheld while family members were notified.
