BATON ROUGE - A Baton Rouge man was arrested after he allegedly stabbed a victim following a verbal argument inside the victim's home.

According to arrest records, the stabbing reportedly took place on July 13 before 4 a.m., when detectives with the East Baton Rouge Homicide Division were called to the 9700 block of Summers Glen Drive.

Detectives initially learned that a 36-year-old man, who is the homeowner, was transported to a local hospital with severe life-threatening injuries.

The stabbing reportedly occurred in the kitchen, according to arrest records, where there was excessive blood on the floor and other surfaces.

The victim's wife was present during the stabbing, according to arrest records. She named and positively identified the suspect, Timothy Ricks, 38, of Baton Rouge as the person who violently stabbed her husband.

Ricks is a friend of the victim and was at the residence during the morning while the victim was not there, according to arrest records.

The victim later arrived home when a verbal argument started because Ricks told the victim's wife he was involved in "extramarital affairs," according to arrest records.

Ricks was asked to leave the home and refused to, which prompted a physical fight between Ricks and the victim. Ricks then took out a knife and repeatedly stabbed the victim, according to arrest records.

The victim's wife attempted to stop the attack but was unsuccessful. Ricks then fled the scene.

Detectives contacted the victim at the hospital, who was in stable but critical condition. The victim suffered a laceration in excess of 12 inches to his chest, defensive stab wounds to both hands, and more lacerations to his chin, arm and leg, according to arrest records.

The victim named and positively identified Ricks as the person who stabbed him.

Ricks was arrested and booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison on one count of attempted second-degree murder. His bond was set at $200,000.

Ricks has previously been arrested for second-degree murder, simple burglary, theft, battery of a police officer, hate crimes, possession and distribution of control substance and simple battery, according to arrest records.
