Vandals target Christmas cheer at restaurant
MANCHAC - The popular seafood restaurant on Lake Maurepas, south of Ponchatoula off I-55, is turning to social media to try and solve a Christmas crime.
Middendorf's Seafood Restaurant posted pictures on its Facebook page of what managers said is the Christmas display ruined by vandals Tuesday morning. The images showed assorted decorations toppled over or broken.
Vandals also stole the mailbox where kids place their letters to Santa.
A manager told WBRZ News 2 Wednesday, surveillance video showed a vehicle and activity around the display around 6:45 Tuesday morning. Later, the display was found in disarray.
"Maybe the only thing worse than seeing our hard work ruined is the heartbroken look on children's faces when they realized someone vandalized the Christmas wonderland we created for them," the person who manages the restaurant's Facebook account posted on the site.
About 150 comments followed where people posted their disgust over what happened.
The restaurant, halfway between LaPlace and Tangipahoa Parish on what locals call "Old 51" opened in 1934.
