TICKFAW - Eight people were injured today when a van carrying inmates from the Tangipahoa Parish jail was rear-ended by an 18-wheeler near Tickfaw.

Trooper Nick Manalli with Louisiana State Police said the van had seven inmates and a driver, and all had minor to moderate injuries from the wreck.

Manalli said the van was stopped at a red light on Highway 51 south of Tickfaw when the 18-wheeler rear-ended them around 12:05 p.m. today.  All seven inmates and the van driver were taken to a local hospital.

The truck driver was not injured, and was cited for careless operation of a motor vehicle.
