Utah could bring back firing sqaud
SALT LAKE CITY, UTAH- Utah could become the only state to use a firing squad to execute prisoners on death row if there is a shortage of execution drugs for lethal injection.
The State Legislature sent a bill to do it to Governor Gary Herbert, who hasn't said if he'll sign it. Utah abandoned the firing squad as a form of execution ten years ago.
The bill would require the state to use a firing squad if lethal injection drugs are not available 30-days before an execution.
The sponsor of the bill says it gives Utah an option since lethal injection drugs are in short supply. Opponents contend the firing squad is a barbaric holdover from the Wild West days.
