USA takes out Ghana 2-1 in World Cup opener
John Brooks headed home the go ahead goal for the United States national team late in the opening game of the World Cup.
Brooks' goal in in the 86th minute of play put the US team up 2-1 over Ghana with time winding down and the Yanks held on for the opening match game.
The goal was the second in the second half of play and came on the heels of a Ghana goal that tied the game at one a piece after the US held the lead for most of the contest.
The US took a 1-0 lead when Clint Dempsey scored just 33 seconds into the match.
The US earned three points in pool play and will now face Portugal on Sunday in their second game of Group G play.
