US Rep. Scalise supports David Vitter in La. governor's race
BATON ROUGE - Republican U.S. Sen. David Vitter has picked up another endorsement for the Louisiana governor's race from one of his GOP colleagues in Congress.
U.S. Rep. Steve Scalise, of Metairie, the third-highest ranking member in the House, announced his backing Monday of Vitter's candidacy. In a statement, Scalise touted Vitter's "commitment to the state of Louisiana and his ability to solve critical problems."
Vitter, one of three major Republican candidates in the Oct. 24 election, has received support from nearly every other GOP member of Louisiana's congressional delegation. Endorsements have come from U.S. Sen. Bill Cassidy and U.S. Reps. Ralph Abraham, Charles Boustany and John Fleming.
Also in the governor's race are Republican Public Service Commissioner Scott Angelle, Republican Lt. Gov. Jay Dardenne and Democratic state Rep. John Bel Edwards.
