U.S. 190 bridge improvements possible
The U.S. 190 bridge over the Mississippi River in Baton Rouge may get an $80 million facelift. The initial contract to put together a plan for the facelift has been awarded to a Massachusetts company.
Bridge improvements could start as early as 2011 although that could be delayed. Included in any improvements are structural repairs and painting. The 12,200-foot-long Huey P. Long Bridge was built in 1940. The last improvements were in 1989 when $15 million was spent to widen the
roadway from 20 to 24 feet.
