DENHAM SPRINGS- Emergency crews are trying to keep an oil storage tank from exploding, after another tank nearby erupted into flames Thursday night.

People in the immediate area of Linder Road and Arnold Road have been evacuated.

The Livingston Parish Office of Emergency Preparedness told WBRZ News 2 about thirty homes were evacuated out of caution.

The tank had about 8,000 gallons of oil inside.  Crews are dosing the second tank with water and will eventually use foam so it does not ignite or explode.

Crews plan to let the tank on fire burn itself out. A containment wall is stopping any leaking oil.

A cause of the initial blast has not been released.
