State Police say a woman who was not wearing a seat belt died after crashing head on with another vehicle west of Albany just after 7:00 pm. Investigators say Linda Higginbotham, 68, of Holden, crossed the center line on US-190 and crashed her SUV into a truck driven by Timothy Johnson, 17, of Independence. Johnson was wearing a seat belt and sustained only minor to moderate injuries. Higginbotham was pronounced dead on the scene by the Livingston Parish coroner.
State Police say a lack of using seatbelts is one of the main causes of serious injury or death in car accidents they investigate.
