Unrestrained driver dies in Denham Springs
DENHAM SPRINGS - A 20-year-old Livingston man died in a two-vehicle crash around 9 p.m. on LA Hwy 1028 in Livingston Parish, according to Louisiana State Police Tpr. Jared Sandifer.
Sandifer says 28-year-old Samuel Doherty III of Baton Rouge was a 2013 Chevrolet Silverado westbound on LA Hwy 64. At the same time, 22-year-old Bryan Payne of Denham Springs was driving a 1997 Ford pickup truck eastbound on LA Hwy 64.
Doherty's Silverado then crossed over the centerline striking Payne's vehicle head-on. Mickel Tetreault, a front seat passenger in Payne's vehicle, was not wearing a seatbelt and died from the crash.
Payne was wearing a seatbelt and suffered serious injuries. He was transported to a local hospital. Doherty was also wearing a seatbelt during the crash, but impairment on his part is suspected.
Toxicology samples from both drivers were submitted to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab. The crash remains under investigation and charges are pending.
