The AFL-CIO claims it registered more than 450,000 new voters from households with union members in the effort to reelect President Obama. Voters from union household traditionally favor Democrats and polls showed 59 percent backed the President in 2008, while 39 percent voted for John McCain. The new numbers include about 68,000 new voters in Ohio, one of the hot battleground states this year. Union members voting Democrat is expected to continue due to efforts by Republican leaders to weaken collective bargaining rights in Ohio, Wisconsin, Indiana and other states.
