BATON ROUGE- Police and Alcoholic Beverage Control agents arrested more then two dozen people in a compliance check last night at a popular bar near the LSU campus.
Cpl. L'Jean McKneely said they made the arrests at Shady's Bar on East Boyd. They said undercover officers inside the bar noticed many compliance issues before officers were called in.
"I was in there and they turned on all the lights, it was kind of funny because you could see all the kids freaking out and then everyone walked away," said Alyssa DeMario, who is not underage.
McKneely said 12 were arrested for being in the bar without ID, 18 were arrested for being under the age of 21, and one was arrested for being younger than 18. Two others were arrested for disturbing the peace and interfering with a police investigation.
Several people who frequent the area say it's not hard to get a drink at most of the bars, even if you're underage.
"If you are a female you can get it pretty easy, if you have a wristband you can get it even easier. I wouldn't say any easier than any other place in Tigerland," said DeMario.
McKneely said Shady's owners and operators could face additional charges related to the investigation.
