ULL, LSU, Southern players earn LSWA honors
BATON ROUGE - Two offensive explosions and a stellar defensive effort earned football players from Louisiana-Lafayette, LSU and Southern University this week's Louisiana College Player of the Week honors as given by the Louisiana Sports Writers Association on Monday.
Elijah McGuire helped the Cajuns to a 55-40 win over Arkansas State by rushing for 265 yards and four TDs to earn offensive honors. Kendell Beckwith of LSU helped the Tigers to a 10-7 upset of No. 3 Ole Miss with 11 tackles to earn defensive honors. Finally, Southern is recognized through the play of Willie Quinn who had 242 all-purpose yards and a punt return touchdown in the win on the road over Jackson State.
