U-High wins 1st state title since 1988, beating Parkview Baptist 46-32
NEW ORLEANS - Nick Brossette ran for a state title game record 272 yards, and University High got their long-awaited for state championship, winning the Division 2 title with a 46-32 win over Parkview Baptist.
The Eagles reached the state title game for the 2nd time in 3 years, but new head coach Jay Mayet could not lift the Eagles past the Cubs, who are now 4-0 all time against the Eagles, all coming in the past few years.
The Eagles started with a 14-nothing lead after the triple-option running team scored on two passing touchdowns.
The Cubs responded with three blocked kicks, and then turned the ball over to Brossette, who carried the ball 37 times and scored 3 touchdowns in the game.
The Cubs' state title is the program's first since 1988.
