BATON ROUGE- Tyrann Mathieu has five days to leave his off-campus apartment after management issued an eviction notice following his Thursday arrest.
Mathieu, Jordan Jefferson, Karnell Hatcher, and Derrick Bryant were all arrested on drug charges.
According to an affidavit obtained by News 2, Jordan Jefferson was trying to barge into "The Venue" apartments on State Street, when the manager called police to ban him from the property. When police arrived, they reported Mathieu's apartment smelled of marijuana. The documents indicate, police then got permission from Mathieu to search and found several bags of marijuana scattered around the apartment. One bag was inside Mathieu's dresser while some were in Derrick Bryant's backpack.
"Tyrann and his family are taking this very seriously and taking the appropriate steps for his life first, everything else will follow from there," said Kris Perret, Mathieu's lawyer.
Perret said a decision hasn't been made on whether Mathieu would return to school.
Jordan Jefferson still has to face a judge over charges from a bar fight last year and this new arrest could land him in more hot water.
"General conditions of the bond are that you stay arrest and conviction free and Mr. Jefferson has court on Tuesday, surely his judge will take a look at the allegations, he's presumed innocent just like anyone else and really it's a matter for the judge," said District Attorney Hillar Moore.
"When you untangle the evidence it will be apparent that Jordan was not in possession of marijuana," said Lance Unglesby, Jefferson's lawyer. "It's a matter of being in the wrong place at the wrong time."
Karnell Hatcher remains in jail, he was charged with his 2nd possession offence. Derrick Bryant was charged with possession with intent to distribute, a felony. Both Mathieu and Jefferson were charged with simple possession of marijuana, a misdemeanor.
