SCOTLANDVILLE - Two Scotlandville teens were arrested last week at their high schools after they were accused of bringing firearms and drugs onto school property.

The Baton Rouge Police Department says 18-year-old Dalon Veals was arrested after officers found marijuana and a BB gun in his car parked in the Scotlandville Magnet parking lot. At around 10 a.m. on Mar. 4, officers were checking vehicles parked in the school's parking lot and noticed a black handle under a pair of slippers, similar to a hand gun, in the car. They said they also noted a strong odor of marijuana from the coming from the car.

BRPD said they used a narcotics dog to confirm the presence of illegal narcotics inside the car. While officers were not able to locate the owner of the car initially, but an East Baton Rouge School Board Security respresentative opened the car, as they have the authority to enter a car on school property without the owner's consent, according to police.

Once the car was unlocked, police say an officer found a BB gun under the slippers along with a water bottle that contained two bags of marijuana. Minutes later, officers said they were able to locate Veals who was in the wrong class.

In a separate, unrelated incident, police said they also arrested another 18-year-old, Terry Tircuit, that same morning on similar charges at Scotlandville High School.

Police reported that they were assisting East Baton Rouge School Board Security with the search of the school when a narcotics K9 detected an odor of narcotics in another car parked in the lot. At the request of school board personel, police entered the car and found a 40 caliber pistol in a CD case and three plastic bags of marijuana. A digital scale was also located in the glove box, according to BRPD.

Police said they located Tircuit's wallet in the vehicle with the drugs, and were able to find him on campus with the aid of school employees. Ticuit said that his mother dropped the car off at the school for him, and he didn't know anything about drugs and gun found inside. Tircuit was booked on charges of possession of a firearm and possession of marijuana.
