Two-story house on Plank Road burns down
BATON ROUGE - Investigators determined that an overloaded power cord caused a fire that burned down a two-story house on Plank Road on Monday morning.
The Baton Rouge Fire Department dispatched a total of seven units to the scene of the fire in the 2000 block of Plank shortly before 8 a.m.
According to BRFD, wind conditions on the blustery Monday morning increased the intensity of the blaze and caused the roof of the structure began to collapse as firefighters entered the building.
Firefighters were forced outside of the building as the roof collapsed, but no injuries were reported. Residents were able to exit down a back stairwell as BRFD arrived on the scene, and all escaped unharmed.
Investigators attributed the fire to a single outlet in the multi-family home and declared the structure a total loss. The Red Cross of Louisiana, along with EMS and Baton Rouge police, were on the scene to assist the displaced residents.
