BATON ROUGE - Two men are recovering from gunshot wounds to their hands after confronting a suspect who tried to rob two women at gunpoint.
Around 1:00 a.m. today, Baton Rouge Police responded to the 700 block of East Boyd Drive near Nicholson.
Investigators said it happened while a group of people were walking together down East Boyd toward Nicholson.
Police said a man with a gun grabbed the arm of a female in the group, and two men with her tried to take the gun away from the attacker.
During the struggle the gun went off, hitting the two men's hands. The attacker fled, and the victims ran to a nearby business for help.
The two men had minor injuries and were treated at a local hospital. No arrests have been made.
Investigators questioned witnesses and the female victims at the scene and were able to determine a description.
"He's a black male, approximately 5'8" tall, wearing dark clothing," Cpl. Tommy Stubbs said.
Police said the suspect fled on foot, but some witnesses think he jumped in a car and sped off toward Nicholson.
