BATON ROUGE - Two people were shot in the Glen Oaks neighborhood overnight. It happened on Oak Park Drive near Sumrall just around 11:30 p.m.
Dederick Droze, 24, died at the scene. Another victim reportedly ran into a neighbors yard until someone called for help. The second victim remains in the hospital in serious condition.
Neighbors who live where the shooting happened say their section of Glen Oaks is usually quiet.
"I haven't seen anything like that before," one neighbor said. "Not in this neighborhood anyway."
John Courville has lived in Glen Oaks for nearly 40 years. He says things began changing in the neighborhood about 20 years ago.
Even though someone was killed in front of his home, he does not plan on leaving.
"I ain't going no where," Courville said. "My house is paid for... why should I leave?"
