TANGIPAHOA PARISH - A man is suspected of trying to kill his significant other and himself on a busy Louisiana roadway Monday.

According to the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff's Office, first responders were called to a reported shooting on  I-55 North near the Amite exit around 1:30 in the afternoon. Near the overpass, they found a woman lying on the driver's side of a sedan and a man lying on the ground nearby. Both appeared to have suffered gunshot wounds to the head.

The man was airlifted to a hospital and the woman, who appeared to be conscious at the time, was transported by ambulance. As of Tuesday, both remain in critical but stable condition.

The pair was identified Tuesday as 35-year-old Sylvia Foxx and 44-year-old Shane Anthony Jones, both of Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Deputies believe the two have been involved in a long-term relationship, but it's unclear if they were married.

The sheriff's office says Jones may be facing attempted murder charges once the investigation concludes.

This is a developing story. Check back for updates.
