Two missionaries involved in I-12 wreck
WALKER- A religious group says two of its members were fatally injured in a car crash in Livingston Parish this week.
Matthew Barr and his wife Hailey were hit Tuesday night on I-12. Hailey died after the crash. Police said Matthew Barr is on life support. Investigators described his injuries as extremely critical.
The Barrs worked in the Philippines, according to the Facebook page of the couple's group.
They lived "lives built on truth, integrity, passion, purity, determination, compassion, generosity and so much more," organizers posted online.
The couple was away from their work, visiting Louisiana when they were involved in the crash.
Police said the crash involved the couple's small car, a semi, and a pick-up towing another car.
"Based on what we know at this time, it appears that a westbound 18 wheeler changed lanes to avoid a westbound pickup truck towing a disabled Ford Focus that pulled from the outside road shoulder into the lane of travel. While changing lanes, the 18 wheeler struck a westbound Volkswagen convertible, sending it into the path of a second 18 wheeler," a police spokesperson said.
Facebook became a memorial for the Barrs, one posting read: "the void will be great, but the gratitude of having them in our lives will remain in our hearts. So many words to be written and things to be said, but in short, we honor them."
