BATON ROUGE - Police said two people died in a wrong-way wreck which tied up traffic all morning on the I-10 Mississippi River Bridge.
Cpl. L'Jean McKneely said Alex Dillman, 29, was driving an SUV the wrong way on I-10 East overnight when he struck a Freightliner head-on just after 2 a.m. He said Dillman then collided with a pickup driven by Dragus Rochon, 33.
Rochon was transported to a local hospital where he later died from his injuries, according to police. Dillman was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the tractor trailer was transported to a local hospital with moderate injuries.
The bridge was closed for more than six hours, with traffic diverted onto U. S. 190.
News 2's Michael Shingleton will have more on the investigation into what caused the man to drive the wrong way onto the bridge starting at 4 p.m.
