BREAUX BRIDGE - State Police said the driver of a pickup is in critical condition after they hit and killed two kids and injured a third while the children were walking to middle school in Breaux Bridge Thursday morning.

State Police said Jeremy Abraham, 32, hit the girls from behind Thursday morning while driving down Martin Street around 8 a.m. His truck then swerved down the road, hitting  a utility pole and two culverts.

State Police earlier said that Abraham left the scene of the wreck, and was apprehended by Breaux Bridge police.

Trooper Brooks David said a 15-year-old and a 14-year-old died at the scene. A 13-year-old was taken to OLOL hospital in Baton Rouge in serious condition.

A candlelight vigil was scheduled at a city park and trick-or-treating Thursday night was canceled on several streets.
