BATON ROUGE - Police believe a domestic dispute led to a deadly shooting off College Drive Monday morning.

The incident was initially reported to police as two separate shooting around 10 in a.m. in the area of Bunker Hill Drive.

According to BRPD, 27-year-old Gabrielle Bessix and 25-year-old Brodrick Edwards had gotten into an argument at her home. Bessix soon called a friend, who said she arrived to find Bessix running from Edwards outside the house.

Edwards then allegedly shot Bessix and fired more shots at her friend, who was struck by at least one bullet. The shooter then turned the gun on himself, police said. Both Edwards and Bessix were pronounced dead at the scene.

The wounded woman was found a short distance from the scene of the shooting and taken to an area hospital for treatment. The extent of her injuries is unclear.

Court records show Bessix had requested a restraining order against Edwards in late July. The documents say the two had previously had a live-in relationship, but Bessix had told him she no longer wanted to be with him due to previous instances of abuse. In the request, she alleged her ex had stalked and physically abused her.

The documents go on to say Edwards recently confronted her outside a hospital, where he allegedly tried to force her into his car, choked her and threatened to kill her. Edwards left that night after the two were met by hospital security.

A hearing was held just last week in reference to Bessix's request.

Monday's shooting remains under investigation.
