Two charged with cockfighting, 77 roosters seized
ZACHARY - Authorities arrested two men Sunday afternoon for cockfighting in East Baton Rouge Parish, but one of the suspects denied the allegations when News 2 went looking for answers
Tien Dang, 42, and Bao Dang, 30, were charged with misdemeanor cruelty.
Officers were tipped off about a cockfighting event on Samuels Road near Flonacher Road, according to an arrest report. When they arrived around 3 p.m., authorities said they found multiple people participating. The suspects ran into the woods, carrying chickens in their hands and leaving money on the ground according to authorities.
Authorities issued summons for 20 other people who they believe participated in the cockfighting ring. They also seized 77 roosters, spurs, tackle boxes filled with syringes, unknown chemicals and sandpaper. Investigators said these types of materials are commonly used in cockfighting.
Investigators said Tien Dang and Bao Dang organized the event. They were booked into parish prison and released on $5,000 bond.
An investigator says most of the roosters had to be euthanized due to their aggressive nature.
