BATON ROUGE - Sheriff's deputies arrested two people in connection with a deadly shooting near the Castlebrook Apartments in East Baton Rouge Parish.
Deputies arrested Joshua Birchfield, 28, and Andre Steward, 17, Monday. Both are accused of having a part in the shooting EBRSO spokesperson Casey Rayborn Hicks said in a news release.
Hicks said Birchfield shot Rashawn Washington, 18, last night at the apartments on Sherwood Forest Blvd. According to investigators, Birchfield said he was trying to buy codeine syrup from Washington and Steward when they tried to rob him, and he shot Washington. Investigators said Birchfield claimed Washington pulled a gun on him, which he wrestled away and then shot Washington with after getting out of his vehicle.
Steward also had warrants for simple burglary and unauthorized use of a movable.
