Two people have been arrested for money order thefts in Labadieville.

Police said 22-year-old Julie E. Gregoire, Labadieville, and her ex-boyfriend, 22-year-old David W. Allemand, Jr., Napoleonville, stole money from Robert’s Food Store over the past two years.

Authorities learned Gregoire created over 200 money orders with a monetary value exceeding $160,000. The funds from the money orders were unaccounted for and cashed at various locations throughout Louisiana. Gregoire confessed to police to creating and cashing a majority of the money orders and said Allemand was also involved in cashing several of the money orders and knew she was fraudulently creating them.

The owner of the store where Gregoire worked reported an employee theft in June. The owner said he noticed funds from the store’s account had been dwindling. He consulted with his CPA and learned that money from the sales of Western Union money orders were missing from the store’s account.

Assumption deputies arrested Allemand on Aug. 15. Gregoire turned herself into two days later.

Allemand is at the Ascension Parish Detention Center on a $200,000 bond. Gregoire was released on a $200,000 bond pending her court date.
