BATON ROUGE – Blockbuster movies based on vampires and a board game made up most of the money spent by film companies in Baton Rouge last year, according to Mayor-President Kip Holden’s office.
An economic impact report released to the Baton Rouge Film Commission said film companies spent about $196 million in Baton Rouge and accounted for 33,500 hotel and motel room nights in 2010.
Nearly two-thirds of that came from two projects, “The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn” and “Battleship”.
"Our Baton Rouge Film Commission has done a tremendous job selling our city as a great place for production," Holden said in a press release, "and they have set even higher goals for the future."
Holden’s office said according to state records “Battleship” spent an estimated $67.6 million in 2010 and had a Louisiana payroll of $37.7 million, while the “Twilight” production spent $65.5 million locally and is estimated to spend another $32.7 million in 2011 as it continues filming.
