BATON ROUGE- Two inmates from Dixon Correctional Institute escaped earlier today during a work detail at the Department of Transportation and Development in Baton Rouge.
Charles Lidberg, 22, of Baton Rouge, and Brett Hebert, 21, of Lockport, walked out of the DOTD building while they were cleaning, according to Janet Lorena, deputy warden of Dixon Correctional Institute.
"We screen the records and try to be as careful as we can be when we're putting together these work details. You know, we check on them routinely and so we did all we can do to try and keep them at work," Lorena told News 2.
Lidberg was behind bars, convicted of theft and simple burglary, while Hebert was convicted of simple robbery, aggravated battery and 2nd degree battery.
Authorities are searching the DOTD building, Downtown Baton Rouge, Spanishtown and the Greyhound Bus Station.
If you have information call the Dixon Correctional Institute at 225-634-1200. There's a $500 reward for information that leads to an arrest.
