CENTRAL- An investigation is underway after three trucks were burglarized less than 24 hours ago at the Blackwater Conservation BREC Park.
The thieves helped themselves to everything inside the vehicles and got away with about $300.
Shannon Deason said his family and friends were on the trails of the park spending their weekend. When they returned, they came back to three trucks in horrible shape.
"They didn't even take anything from my truck," Deason said. "They just tore it up. They tried to get stuff, couldn't get it and now I have to pay for damages, and they didn't get anything. That's the stupidest thing about it."
Deason said the thieves targeted his truck, his brother's truck, and a friend's truck. Deason told News 2 that deputies told him it was a growing problem in the area.
"They said there was a rash of the same thing happening on average at least once per month," Deason said. "They tried putting a bait car here several times and can't catch the people doing it, but I guess it's the same people doing it over and over."
Billy Truett came to the park to take pictures and enjoy the nature today. He believes on a day like Labor Day, the thieves should learn a lesson.
"That's part of the problem," Truett said. "Everybody wants something somebody else has. Nobody wants to work for anything anymore."
Deason said the sheriff's office took a swab from the scene to match DNA from the people responsible.
