Trucker spots fire, firefighters rescue family
CENTRAL - A family of seven and their five dogs are alive today thanks in large part to a truck driver who spotted a fire at their home off of Greenwell Springs Rd.
Central Fire Department says the driver was crossing Magnolia Bridge early Tuesday morning when he spotted flames and called 911. When firefighters arrived at the home just after 2:30 am, they found a fire on the front porch and a house full of smoke.
The family was still sleeping, unaware that the house was on fire. Firefighters woke them with a knock at the door and escorted all seven family members and their pets to safety. No one was injured by the blaze.
Fire officials say the home did not have a working fire alarm.
